I’m PODing

Well it's now official. I’m working out if I should become a Pastor / Minister type person. I'm doing this via the Uniting Church's Period of Discernment (POD). Why? Well, for as long as I can remember I have felt some kind of call to ministry. My calling is not a clear once off call from God. Instead, my call is more like a ringing in my ears I have had since I was a teenager. For a long time I had always thought that all Christians felt the same call to ministry as I have done. The “ringing in my ears” comes and goes as I move in and out of where I sense God is calling me. At the moment the ringing is loud and the “Period of Discernment” will be an opportunity to see where God might take me within the Uniting Church.

Hey Chris, congratulations on the step of faith. I think you would be a good minister. Hope you really do discern what's best. Shalom, Nathan.

Thanks Nathan! Although I am a little disappointed you didn't give me some kind of selling out an anti-establishment tirade. Peace. :) Chris

Well, it's a broad establishment.

My thinking is changing: I'm beginning to realise that placing oneself outside all structures, organisation and ultimately perhaps discipline is not the way to serve Jesus best.

I imagine it's quite possible to be a Uniting church minister and not have sold out at all. :)

This is good to hear!! I've never felt like I've sold out by being paid to be a minister, merely been obedient to God's call in my particular time and place.

The Uniting Church certainly allows for breadth of practice, though it doesn't mean everything is healthy and good ... in the end we will all be called to give an account of what we've done. :-) In Jesus, Mark

The Uniting Church stands for nothing and especially not for Christ. Wise up young man, its on His terms, not yours. You know it.

No Serat, Tell me what you really think. ;) I think that the Uniting Church will certainly argue that they do stand for something and that they do stand for Christ. How good a job they do of that or how their understanding of what it means to stand for Christ of course is open for debate. Also as much as I'd like to be a "young man" I'm actually middle aged.
