Having trouble being Eco-Friendly

I'm probably a little bit more environmentally aware than most people. I'm aware that one of my big environmental problems is not using public transport. But, public transport is not an option. It takes me 25 minutes to drive to work and there is not a single pubic transport service that will get me to work before 9am and not one that will get me back home after 5pm. Not even if I get up at 5am it just doesn't exist. I live in the suburbs of Perth and out of my window I can see a train station so I'm not exactly living and working on the fringes, but yet this simple activity is not even an option. So what's the green thing to do?

Hello mytzpyk and Stuart,

Well I've decided to start cycling (don't have a motor bike) I ride maybe once or twice a week to start. It's 25 km or 15.5 miles one way (that's 50km or 31 mile round trip) so I'll have to get a little fitter first.

Start a car-sharing network, use Gull biogas or BP ultimate if you have to use petrol.
Nexuscarshare.com.au is a carhare network being started up in freo.

Thanks Annonymous,

My local Gull doesn't have biogas (and it's not on their website). Did you mean biodiesel? Nexuscarshare.com.au looks great although I'm about half an hour away from freo and it's about 45min away from my work so I'll have to wait until it moves to other areas. I'll do some exploring on the car pooling front too. Oh, and my bike tyres are pumped and I'll start builidng up enough fitness to ride (not all the time though) to work.

Yeah, I meant biodiesel.

I think riding is the best solution, though... get fit, get an endorphin hit, get to be smug about how green you are. Everyone's a winner!
Good luck with it!
