I've written to both Liberal and Labor candidates in my electorate telling them I'm disappointed with their policies on refugees and I haven't heard a thing back from either of them. Frustrating. I could post statistics about the issue but two funny guys works just as well.

The term "refugees" has to be examined more before people are labeled as such. Is an illegal alien a genuine refugee? When someone comes into a new country illegally or under false pretenses is that person a genuine refugee? What are they seeking refuge from? Is it God by doing something illegal? The term "refugees" is used very loosely today just like "casual sex" or "sexual orientation" for a homosexual relationship.
I have used the term refugees here only because almost all of people arriving by boat in Australia have been assessed as genuine refugees.
In response to Maurice.
An asylum seeker is neither entering the country illegally or under false pretenses.
It is perfectly legal to come here by boat and ask to have your status as a refugee assessed.
Not only that, but Australia is obligated by signatury status to international convention to deal with such applicants humanely and assess such applications impartially.
As far as God punishing people for breaking the law, Jesus himself was compassionate and offered aid and succour to all sorts of criminals including prostitutes and thieves.
Maybe a with a bit less judgement and a bit more love thy neighbour, (be they black, gay or anything else), people would have less to seek refuge from.
